The Swamp Thing Collection: by Alan Moore
The Swamp Thing is a series of comic books by Alan Moore. In the series, a man, who remains unknown through the book, is exposed to a new treatment that will supposedly save humanity from extinction. The new treatment takes a man, presumably Alec Holland, and his memories into the body of a plant. In the story, the Swamp Thing has to decide whether he is truly a man, or just a plant. Should he fight on the plant or human side? Should he go back to his wife and kids? What does he truly feel about himself? I think that rather than the birth of a monster, I think this comic is about the experiences of a greater man. Not knowing what exactally what he is makes himself more open to ideas. This idea of nothingness, the vastness, really makes Alec Hollands mind more open, more willing, and more human.
